I
n the pages that follow, there are 797
programmes grouped under 26 career
directions. Pages 10 and 11 list career directions
in terms of suitability for the four working
personality types. If you do not know what you
want to study, it might help you to work through
the
'self-assessment quiz'
(pages 8 and 9).
Career directions are divided into three
sections. The first with theBLUE heading contains
programmes at universities and universities of
technology and the second with the GREEN
heading contains programmes at Public FET
colleges and the third with the BROWN heading
contains programmes at Private Colleges.
To find a programme
Look up the field of study, for example, Sport, in
the
'Index'
(pages 164-170) and then go directly
to the page/s specified.
Within each career direction, programmes are
grouped according to the level of study.
The six main levels of study are:
Shorter course study
NC(V) Study
Certificate study
Diploma study
Degree study
B Tech / MTech study.
If you are looking for postgraduate study,
consult the institution for courses which are not
included in the CAO Handbook.
You will also find some shorter courses,
and programmes for people who are already
working as Educators or Nurses.
Within each category, the programmes are
listed in
alphabetical order
by programme name.
What the programme list shows you
closing date
If the programme has set a closing date, it
is given here. Apply as soon as you can as a
number of programmes have early closing dates
because time is needed to carry out interviews
and assessment tests. Each institution deals
with late applications in different ways. Refer
to the institution’s prospectus for further
information. The selection status you are given
will show if a programme was already closed
when we received your application.
Make sure that your application form
AND
fee reach the CAO before the programme
closing date.
min points
The numbers printed in red give you the
minimum points required for that programme.
The first set of points relate to the NSC and the
second set are for the Senior Certificate (pre
2008 matric examination). Further requirements
may apply for selection, therefore meeting the
minimum points does not guarantee that you
will be offered a place.
You can calculate your total points from your
latest examination results by adding up the points
for each subject as shown on the next page.
Please note that some faculties at the institutions
may calculate the points differently. Check their
websites or prospectus for details.
programme name
The full name of the programme, for example,

The first two letters of the programme code

these codes is on pages 58 and 59.
